    1. difference — (существительное difference многозначно): a) различие, разница, отличие, несходство (обозначает сам факт непохожести/несходства одного объекта с другим, не уточняя того, в чем состоит это несходство и в какой мере оно определенно, очевидно или ясно): difference in appearance (character) — несходство внешности (характеpa); all difference in the world — существенная разница/большая разница; difference of opinion — расхождение во мнениях/разногласия; the difference between two versions of the same text — различие между двумя редакциями одного и того же текста/разночтение между двумя редакциями одного и того же текста; with the difference that… — стой разницей, что…; to make a difference between… — проводить различие между… What difference does it make to you who is coming to the party? — Вам разве не все равно, кто придет на этот вечер?/Какая вам разница, кто ожидается на приеме?     2. distinction — различие, разница, отличие (как правило указывает на ясность или очевидность той черты или свойства, часто незначительного, которые делают сравнимые объекты несхожими): nice (vital, clear) distinction — тонкое (существенное, явное) различие; distinction in meaning — различие в значении; distinction of degree (of kind) — качественное (количественное) различие; without distinction — без различия/без исключения; in distinction from smth — в отличие от чего-либо; a distinction without a difference — несущественное разграничение/кажущееся различие; a distinction between smth — различие между чем-либо; to make a distinction — различать; to see no distinction between two things — не видеть разницы между двумя вещами; to draw a distinction between smth — проводить различие между чем-либо/различать что-либо It is important to make a careful distinction between these approaches to the problem. — Важно тщательно различать эти два подхода к проблеме. The distinction between two synonyms is not always easily seen. — Различие между двумя синонимами не всегда легко увидеть.
    3. variety — различие, разнообразие (некоторое количество людей или объектов, которые отличаются или непохожи друг на друга; отличительные черты создают разнообразие): variety in food — разнообразие в еде/в пище; variety of opinions — различные точки зрения; variety of shapes — разнообразие форм; to lend variety to smth — вносить разнообразие во что-либо Life full of variety. — Жизнь полная разнообразия/перемен. He cannot live without variety. — Он не может жить без смены впечатлений. I was struck by the variety of his interests. — Я был поражен разнообразием его интересов./Я был поражен широтой его интересов. The firm offers boxes of chocolates with a variety of cream filling. — Фирма предлагает коробки шоколадных конфет с разнообразной начинкой.
    4. diversity — различие, разница, разнообразие, многообразие, отличие, расхождение, несовпадение ( круг разных людей или объектов, различающихся между собой): The diversity of opinions was quite obvious. — Расхождение во мнениях было совершенно очевидно./Разброс мнений был очевиден.
